What’s WeAcademy?
Originating in October 2007 as the Weilun International Model United Nations Training Camp, it underwent a significant transformation starting in 2015, adopting the new name Weilun International National Youth Leadership Training Camp, or WeAcademy. This reform signifies a substantial improvement in the professional, authoritative, and academic aspects of the Weilun International Model United Nations Education Platform. This enhancement results from the collaboration between the Weilun International Model United Nations Education Platform and the China Public Diplomacy Association, as well as the Faculty of Education at Beijing Normal University.
Why WeAcademy?
We believe that education should not only cultivate professional competence in individuals but, more importantly, enable them to appreciate the meaning of life and empower them to manage their own lives effectively. Learning and education should promote personal growth, foster meaningful friendships, and contribute to the perfection of one’s career.
WELAND International National Youth Leadership Training Camp, formerly known as the WELAND International Model United Nations Education Platform, has undergone significant enhancements through collaboration with the China Public Diplomacy Association and Beijing Normal University’s School of Education. This seven-day program is designed to cater to Chinese youth, focusing on understanding diplomatic affairs, international relations, and enhancing practical English proficiency. The camp aims to develop foundational skills like effective communication and problem-solving, as well as higher-level abilities such as leadership and innovation. WELAND International, with over a decade of experience, assists students in knowledge accumulation, skill development, and critical thinking, fostering their overall growth and empowerment.
What have in WeAcademy?
In the summer of 2016, WELAND International organized a training camp featuring over ten lecturers from prestigious overseas universities and senior lecturers from renowned domestic universities. The camp aimed to enhance participants’ international communication skills, public speaking, and debating abilities through engaging and interactive courses. The program provided a diverse perspective on international relations and public affairs. Participants were equipped with fundamental skills and methods for success, and the camp also included practical extracurricular activities. Simultaneously, WELAND International hosted its first joint conference for high school and university students, the WELAND International Global High School Model United Nations Conference (WEMUN EXPO 2016), offering attending delegates a valuable opportunity for preparation and success.
WeAcademy Principle
The UNESCO “Delors Report” defines four dimensions of lifelong learning: learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be. The core philosophy of the training camp fully aligns with these dimensions.
After years of organizing Model United Nations activities and educational practices, we believe that a truly beneficial training program starting with Model UN must break free from the narrow approach of one-sided knowledge transfer and technical training. This is essential to help students develop effectively. Model UN training is neither preparatory education for college entrance exams nor specialized training for higher education. The curriculum design of a good training program should be multidimensional.
The curriculum design for our training program focuses on three key dimensions: knowledge accumulation, skill development, and intellectual cultivation. It offers tailored guidance and enhancement based on the current educational levels of students. Our goal is to guide students through intellectual pathways, exploring the thoughts of influential figures from Aristotle to Machiavelli, from Westphalia to Cancun. This approach aims to provide students with a well-rounded understanding of the world’s development.
