Respected school leaders, teachers, and students,
We sincerely invite you to attend and participate in the “2023 Shanghai Foreign Language School Affiliated to Shanghai International Studies University – University of Chicago Model United Nations Conference” (MUNUC-SFLS Model United Nations Conference 2023). The conference will be held from December 14th to 17th, 2023, at the Shanghai Foreign Language School Affiliated to Shanghai International Studies University.
This conference is jointly organized by the Shanghai Foreign Language School Affiliated to Shanghai International Studies University, the University of Chicago Model United Nations, and Weland International. The University of Chicago Model United Nations Conference is one of the most prestigious and diverse Model United Nations conferences globally. With the collaboration of the three entities and leveraging the resources of the Weland International Model United Nations educational platform, this partnership aims to provide a more secure solution for the sustainable development of Model United Nations activities worldwide. It also offers a great opportunity for young enthusiasts interested in Model United Nations to exchange ideas with experts.
As the organizer of the conference, Shanghai Foreign Language School Affiliated to Shanghai International Studies University was founded in 1963, being one of the first national foreign language schools established under the personal care of Premier Zhou Enlai. Affiliated with the Ministry of Education, the school actively aligns with national strategic needs, initiates reforms and innovations in talent development, and strives to promote a comprehensive, multilingual, and integrated education model for high-quality students from middle school to university. It has become a Shanghai experimental and exemplary high school, a Shanghai behavioral norm demonstration school, a national foreign language teaching research demonstration school, the president school and board school of the National Association of Foreign Language Schools, and a “window” for Shanghai’s basic education to the outside world. The school is renowned as the “cradle for nurturing foreign language diplomatic talents.” Adhering to the school motto of “Self-improvement, Sincerity, Far-reaching Ambitions,” the school upholds the educational purpose of serving the country’s development and human progress, actively contributing to national destiny and progressing with the times. The focus is on cultivating well-rounded, linguistically adept, interdisciplinary, high-quality, compound, and international prospective talents. This year coincides with the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Model United Nations Society at SFLS. Over the years, students have demonstrated professionalism and excellence in domestic and international Model United Nations conferences, showcasing their global perspective and high-level cross-cultural communication skills, reflecting their determination to contribute to world peace and development.
Currently, the conference is in its final preparation stage, and the registration process will commence shortly. Detailed information about the conference will be announced on the official pages of Shanghai Foreign Language School, WELAND International, and the WEClub official WeChat account, facilitating registration and inquiries.

Welcome Letter from MUNUC
Dear Delegates,
Welcome to MUNUC-SFLS Conference 2023! We are honored to work in partnership with WELAND and SFLS to present an educational and immersive conference experience for you all.
At Model United Nations of the University of Chicago (MUNUC), our mission since 1988 has always been to educate students in public speaking, international relations, and the possibilities of multilateral collaboration. We seek to make global affairs, complex topics, and their solutions accessible to all who wish to participate. This conference is already an invaluable demonstration of cross-cultural and global partnership. We hope each one of you will take advantage of the wealth of resources provided to you to become creative, reflective, and inclusive leaders of our world.
Over the conference weekend this December, we are excited to present deeply engaging committees for you to learn from and excel within. MUNUC executives have spent time and effort curating policy topics from different time periods, geographies, and cultures. You will spend this weekend simulating the world’s highest policy-making bodies to come up with solutions for problems that challenge us to this day. Your participation will hone your debate and negotiation skills, but also prepare you to solve these issues yourself in the future. We challenge you to take on these problems and find ways to make progress while creating unlikely friendships. Accommodation Arrangement
MUNUC-SFLS Conference 2023 offers delegates 2 accommodation options in order to fully meet need.
Option 1: Shanghai Foreign Language School Dormitory Fee: 200 CNY/per person (3 nights stay from December 14th to 17th, Six-Bed Room)
*Lower Bunk is priority offered. Wash set, slipper and towel are not provided.
Option 2: Wisdom Hotel Shanghai (3 minutes’ walk within Shanghai Foreign Language School) Fee: 675 CNY/per person (3 nights stay from December 14th to 17th, Double Standard Room)
No accommodation alternatives would be provided by the organizing committee due to management concerns.
